According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Cameron Diaz, following her successful return to acting, is now attached to another major project: starring in a sequel to the 1989 cult comedy “Troop Beverly Hills,” being developed by TriStar Pictures.

Plot details for the film remain under wraps, but Clea DuVall will direct and has also written the screenplay. The project marks something of a reunion between DuVall and the studio; she previously directed the acclaimed romantic comedy “Happiest Season” for them.

Producer Lawrence Mark (known for “The Greatest Showman” and “Dreamgirls”), along with Cameron Diaz and her producing partner Katherine Power, are also on board. The project reunites Diaz with Sony (TriStar’s parent company), where she previously starred in box office hits such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Holiday,” and “Bad Teacher.”

The original “Troop Beverly Hills,” released in 1989 and starring Shelley Long, followed a wealthy Beverly Hills socialite who, to prove herself to her daughter, takes charge of a group of Wilderness Girls scouts. Despite receiving lukewarm critical reception upon release, the film has since become a beloved cult classic.

Diaz, who returned to acting last year after a decade-long hiatus with “Back in Action” opposite Jamie Foxx, is currently experiencing one of the busiest periods of her career. In addition to the “Troop Beverly Hills” sequel, she will appear in the dark comedy “Outcome,” directed by Jonah Hill (releasing April 10, 2026), alongside Keanu Reeves. She is also set to reprise her role as Princess Fiona in “Shrek 5,” and will star in other upcoming projects including Netflix’s “Bad Day” and an untitled romantic comedy for Amazon.

Clea DuVall, known both as an actor (“Veep,” “The Handmaid’s Tale”) and director, continues to expand her filmmaking career with this new project. No official production or release dates have been announced yet.
